Job Title: Teacher of Maths

Salary Scale: £34,068 to £52,834 per annum (MPS/UPS)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting for a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher of Maths to work in a secondary school in York. This is a maternity cover position, offering an excellent opportunity for a committed teacher to support pupils’ academic progress and maintain continuity in learning throughout the cover period.
About the Role
As a Teacher of Maths, you will plan and deliver engaging lessons that develop pupils’ mathematical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and confidence. You will create a positive and structured classroom environment, adapt teaching approaches to meet different learning needs, and ensure pupils remain motivated and supported throughout their learning journey.
Core Responsibilities of the Teacher of Maths
- Plan and deliver engaging Maths lessons in line with the secondary school curriculum and relevant learning objectives.
- Explain mathematical concepts clearly, helping pupils develop problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Assess pupils’ understanding, monitor progress, and provide constructive feedback to improve achievement.
- Adapt teaching methods and resources to support pupils with different abilities and additional learning needs.
- Maintain positive classroom behaviour and create a safe, inclusive environment that encourages participation.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support curriculum delivery and ensure continuity of learning throughout the maternity cover period.
As the Ideal Teacher of Maths, You Should Have
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Strong subject knowledge and the ability to teach Maths effectively at secondary level.
- Previous experience teaching Maths in a secondary school setting.
- Effective classroom and behaviour management skills.
- Strong communication, organisation, and lesson-planning abilities.
- A flexible and proactive approach, with a commitment to maintaining high standards of teaching and learning during the maternity cover period.
To Work with GSL Education, You Must
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Hold an up-to-date CV and provide references covering the last two years.
- Have recent experience working with children or young people.
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
