About the Role:

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you'll work alongside subject teachers and pastoral staff to support students across Key Stages 3 and 4. You'll help pupils manage their behaviour, navigate lesson transitions and stay engaged with their learning, including during the lead-up to GCSE examinations. By providing consistent guidance and encouragement, you'll help students develop greater confidence, independence and positive learning habits.

About the School:

Staff work collaboratively across departments to maintain consistent behaviour expectations, provide appropriate pastoral support and ensure pupils have access to a positive learning experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Support secondary students with behaviour, emotional regulation and classroom engagement.

  • Work alongside subject teachers to encourage participation and minimise disruption.

  • Help students manage transitions between lessons and adapt to different classroom expectations.

  • Build positive, professional relationships with pupils while maintaining clear boundaries.

  • Support individual students and small groups who need additional behavioural guidance.

  • Monitor behaviour and progress, sharing relevant observations with teachers and pastoral staff.

  • Promote a safe, respectful learning environment across different subject areas.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with young people, particularly teenagers, is desirable.

  • Strong communication and classroom behaviour management skills.

  • A calm, patient and resilient approach when dealing with challenging situations.

  • Confidence in setting clear boundaries while building positive relationships.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and pastoral teams.

  • A genuine commitment to helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

  • Experience in a secondary school or behaviour support setting is advantageous.
