As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you'll work alongside subject teachers and pastoral staff to support secondary-aged pupils who may struggle with behaviour, emotional regulation or engagement in lessons. You'll help students manage challenges, follow classroom expectations and develop positive approaches to learning across different subjects and year groups. This role offers the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with young people while helping them make better use of their time in school.

About the School:

  • Work alongside subject teachers to encourage positive engagement during lessons.

  • Help students manage their emotions and respond appropriately to challenging situations.

  • Support pupils during lesson transitions and across different departments where needed.

  • Promote respectful behaviour, clear boundaries and positive relationships.

  • Encourage students to participate in learning and take responsibility for their actions.

  • Monitor behaviour and progress, sharing relevant observations with teachers and pastoral staff.

  • Follow school behaviour policies and safeguarding procedures at all times.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with secondary-aged children or young people is desirable.

  • A calm, patient and resilient approach to challenging behaviour.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Confidence supporting adolescents with different behavioural and emotional needs.

  • The ability to remain consistent and professional in difficult situations.

  • A flexible approach and the ability to work effectively with teachers and pastoral teams.

  • Experience in behaviour support, pastoral care or a secondary school setting is advantageous.
