Salary Scale: £102 – £120 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking an Advanced Teaching Assistant to work in a secondary school in York. This senior-level opportunity is ideal for an experienced education professional who can take on greater responsibility for supporting teaching and learning, delivering targeted interventions and helping pupils overcome barriers to progress. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff and contribute to the effective delivery of high-quality pupil support across the school.
Advanced Teaching Assistant Role:
As an Advanced Teaching Assistant, you will provide specialised learning support to individuals and groups of pupils while taking on additional responsibilities within the classroom. You will work collaboratively with teachers, support targeted learning activities and help monitor pupil progress. Your experience and initiative will be essential in supporting colleagues, promoting positive behaviour and ensuring pupils receive the guidance they need to succeed.
Advanced Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted support to individuals and small groups to address learning gaps and improve academic progress.
- Deliver planned learning activities and interventions in collaboration with teaching staff.
- Support teachers with lesson preparation, classroom organisation, assessment activities and monitoring pupil progress.
- Take a proactive role in promoting positive behaviour, pupil engagement and an inclusive learning environment.
- Share observations and progress updates with teachers and relevant staff to inform appropriate support strategies.
- Assist in guiding or supporting other teaching assistants where required, helping maintain consistent and effective support for pupils.
Advanced Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Relevant qualifications in supporting teaching and learning, or equivalent experience in an educational setting.
- Substantial experience working as a Teaching Assistant, ideally with experience taking on additional responsibilities.
- Strong understanding of effective learning support, classroom practice and strategies for meeting pupils’ individual needs.
- Confident communication, organisation and behaviour management skills, with the ability to work independently when required.
- A proactive and professional approach, with the ability to collaborate with teachers and support colleagues while maintaining high expectations for pupils.
- An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years, with explanations for any gaps
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
