Job Title:Cover Supervisor
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Full-Time
Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary Scale: £102 – £120 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you a confident, organised and adaptable individual who can manage a classroom and keep students engaged in their learning? GSL Education Hull Branch are searching for a dedicated Cover Supervisor to support secondary school pupils in York.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people, maintaining positive classroom behaviour and ensuring learning continues smoothly in the absence of the regular teacher. You will supervise lessons across different subjects, follow prepared work and help create a productive learning environment.
Main Responsibilities
- Supervise classes during teachers’ planned or unplanned absences, ensuring students complete the work provided.
- Deliver clear instructions and explain lesson tasks to help pupils remain focused and engaged.
- Maintain classroom discipline and promote positive behaviour in line with school policies.
- Support students with their learning activities while encouraging independence and participation.
- Take accurate registers and report any concerns or incidents to the appropriate staff.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and school staff to maintain a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.
Minimum Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or young people in a school, education or similar setting is desirable.
- Strong classroom management skills and the confidence to supervise secondary-age pupils.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm, professional and adaptable in different classroom situations.
- Good organisation, reliability and a proactive approach to supporting learning.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
