What will you be doing?

As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll help create a positive, inclusive and nurturing environment where pupils feel safe, encouraged and ready to learn.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils with their learning on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.

  • Helping children develop communication, social skills and independence.

  • Providing reassurance and encouragement to pupils who may find learning or certain situations challenging.

  • Supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, communication difficulties, sensory needs and social, emotional and mental health needs.

  • Working alongside teachers and other professionals to support individual learning goals.

  • Encouraging positive engagement, celebrating achievements and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.

  • Adapting your approach to meet each child’s individual needs.

No two children are the same, and no two days are exactly alike. Your patience, consistency and encouragement can make a lasting difference.

What makes a great Learning Support Assistant?

We’re looking for people who are:

  • Patient, compassionate and understanding.

  • Positive, reliable and enthusiastic.

  • Adaptable and able to respond calmly to changing situations.

  • Confident building trusting, professional relationships with children and colleagues.

  • Passionate about inclusion and helping every child reach their potential.

  • Willing to learn, take guidance and work collaboratively as part of a team.

Previous experience in a school or SEN setting is an advantage, but transferable experience from childcare, care, residential support, youth work or similar roles may also be valuable. Requirements will vary depending on the individual vacancy.

A full driving licence and access to a vehicle would be preferable, as some schools are located in more remote areas and may not be easily accessible by public transport.

Above all, we’re looking for people who genuinely care about helping children succeed.
