GSL Education Kent are looking for enthusiastic Learning Support Assistants to work across a range of specialist schools and educational settings in Sevenoaks, supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

This is an opportunity to do meaningful work, develop rewarding relationships and help pupils feel supported, included and confident in their abilities.

Whether you have previous experience as a Learning Support Assistant or bring transferable skills from childcare, care or another support-based role, we’d love to hear from you.

Opportunities to suit you

With opportunities across different educational settings, we can help you explore roles that suit your experience, availability and career goals. Depending on current vacancies, these may include day-to-day supply, short-term assignments and longer-term placements.

Develop your skills and experience

Gain valuable experience supporting children with a variety of additional needs, develop your communication and classroom support skills, and explore opportunities to progress within education.

Support throughout your journey

What will you be doing?

As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll help create a welcoming, inclusive and nurturing environment where pupils feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils with learning activities individually and in small groups.

  • Helping children develop communication, social interaction and independent learning skills.

  • Providing patient guidance and reassurance when pupils find learning or particular situations challenging.

  • Supporting pupils with additional needs, including autism, ADHD, communication difficulties, sensory needs and social, emotional and mental health needs.

  • Working alongside teachers and other professionals to support pupils’ individual learning goals.

  • Encouraging positive participation, celebrating achievements and helping children develop confidence.

  • Adapting your approach to suit pupils’ individual needs, abilities and learning styles.

Every child deserves the opportunity to feel successful and included. Your encouragement, patience and consistency can help make that possible.

What makes a great Learning Support Assistant?

We’re looking for people who are:

  • Caring, patient and understanding.

  • Enthusiastic, reliable and positive.

  • Flexible and able to respond calmly to different situations.

  • Confident building positive, professional relationships with children and colleagues.

  • Committed to inclusion and helping every child reach their potential.

  • Willing to learn, take guidance and work collaboratively with others.

Previous experience in a school or SEN setting is an advantage, but experience from childcare, care, residential support, youth work or similar roles may also be relevant. Specific requirements will depend on the individual vacancy.

A full driving licence and access to a vehicle would be preferable, as some schools are based in remote locations where public transport may be limited.

Above all, we’re looking for people who genuinely care about helping children learn, grow and succeed.
