Job description

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant to work in a primary school in Harlow.

The school has a good Ofsted rating and a positive reputation locally. The role is based within its Additional Resource Provision, which supports children with autism across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

The school is actively recruiting and looking for someone with relevant SEN experience who can provide consistent support to pupils with additional needs. This is a full-time, long-term position starting as soon as possible.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting children with autism and additional needs within the school's ARP.

  • Helping pupils access learning activities suited to their individual needs.

  • Supporting communication, social interaction and independence.

  • Helping children manage transitions and follow daily routines.

  • Using a calm, patient and consistent approach when supporting behaviour.

  • Following individual support plans and guidance from teaching staff.

  • Working alongside teachers and other support staff to maintain a consistent approach.

  • Helping pupils participate in classroom activities and the wider school environment.

About You

Previous SEN experience is essential for this role. This does not have to be within a mainstream primary school. Experience in a specialist school, outreach, youth work, residential care or support work may also be relevant.

The school needs someone who is resilient, patient and confident supporting children with additional needs, including autism.

You should be able to:

  • Build positive relationships with children.

  • Remain calm and consistent when behaviour becomes challenging.

  • Understand the importance of structure, boundaries and routine.

  • Adapt your approach to meet individual needs.

  • Work effectively as part of a team and follow guidance from teaching staff.

Experience supporting autistic children, communication needs or behaviours that challenge would be particularly beneficial.
