Would you like to help primary-aged children feel safe, manage their emotions and build confidence in school? A supportive primary school in Doncaster is looking for SEMH Support Staff to work with pupils who need additional social, emotional and mental health support.
About the Role:
As a member of the SEMH support team, you'll help pupils across the primary age range navigate emotional and behavioural challenges so they can take part in learning. Working closely with class teachers and pastoral staff, you'll provide consistent encouragement, help children develop coping strategies and support them through classroom activities and daily routines. Your patience and understanding will be important in helping pupils build positive relationships and make progress at their own pace.
About the School:
The school aims to create a safe and inclusive environment where children feel understood and supported. Staff work together to provide clear routines, consistent expectations and individualised support, helping pupils develop emotionally, socially and academically.
Responsibilities:
-
Support primary-aged pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.
-
Help children recognise and manage their emotions in age-appropriate ways.
-
Encourage positive behaviour, engagement and participation in lessons.
-
Work alongside class teachers to support learning across EYFS, KS1 and KS2, where required.
-
Build trusting relationships while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
-
Help pupils manage transitions and follow daily classroom routines.
-
Share observations and relevant updates with teachers and pastoral staff.
-
Follow safeguarding procedures and individual support strategies.
Requirements:
-
Experience working with children, particularly those with SEMH or behavioural needs, is desirable.
-
A calm, patient and empathetic approach.
-
Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children.
-
Confidence responding to challenging situations in a consistent and supportive manner.
-
The ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff.
-
A genuine commitment to children's emotional wellbeing, inclusion and development.
If you're ready to help children overcome barriers to learning and feel more confident at school, we'd love to hear from you.
