A strong emphasis on supportive relationships and consistent guidance helps create an atmosphere in which young people can build confidence and work towards their academic goals.

Sociology Mentor role

As a Sociology Mentor, you will provide focused subject support, helping pupils consolidate their knowledge, understand challenging theories and improve the quality of their written responses. You will adapt your approach to suit individual learning needs, whether working with pupils one-to-one or in small groups.

We are looking for a Sociology Mentor who can make learning relevant and accessible, encourage meaningful discussion and motivate pupils to engage more confidently with the subject.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a degree or demonstrate a strong academic background in Sociology or a related subject

  • Understand key sociological perspectives, theories and contemporary social issues

  • Provide effective academic support through individual sessions and small-group activities

  • Help pupils strengthen their analytical reasoning, evaluation and essay-writing skills

  • Adapt explanations and learning activities to meet different levels of understanding

  • Encourage independent thought, positive participation and continued academic development

Previous experience in mentoring, tutoring or working within an educational setting would be beneficial. Graduates with strong subject knowledge and a genuine interest in supporting young people are also encouraged to apply.
