Job Title:Cover Supervisor
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Part-Time, Full-Time
Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary Scale: £102 – £120 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you a confident and experienced Cover Supervisor who can lead a classroom, maintain high standards of behaviour, and ensure students remain focused on their learning?
GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting for a reliable and proactive Cover Supervisor to work within a secondary school setting in York. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong classroom management skills who can take responsibility for supervising classes, supporting teaching and learning, and maintaining a positive and purposeful school environment.
About the Role
As a Cover Supervisor, you will play an important role in ensuring continuity of learning during teacher absences. You will supervise students across different subjects and year groups, deliver pre-prepared learning activities, and manage classroom behaviour confidently. The role would suit someone who can work independently, use their initiative, and communicate effectively with students and colleagues.
Core Responsibilities of the Cover Supervisor
- Supervise classes across a range of subjects and year groups, ensuring students complete planned learning activities.
- Maintain high standards of behaviour and create a calm, purposeful classroom environment.
- Respond confidently to classroom challenges and manage behaviour in line with school policies.
- Support students with their learning while encouraging independence and positive engagement.
- Complete registers and maintain accurate records of attendance, behaviour, and relevant incidents.
- Liaise with teaching staff and school leaders to provide feedback and help ensure continuity of learning.
As the Ideal Cover Supervisor, You Should Have
- Previous experience working as a Cover Supervisor or in a similar classroom-based role.
- Strong classroom management skills and the confidence to supervise classes independently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills when working with students and staff.
- The ability to use initiative, remain organised, and respond effectively to changing situations.
- A calm, professional, and consistent approach to behaviour management.
- A proactive attitude and a genuine commitment to maintaining high standards of teaching and learning.
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Have an up-to-date CV with at least 2 professional references covering the last 2 years.
- Have recent experience working with children or young people.
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
