Location: Rotherham
Salary: £460 – £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Are you passionate about helping children with special educational needs overcome challenges and feel more confident in school? A supportive school in Rotherham is looking for a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to help pupils manage their emotions, develop positive behaviours and access learning in a way that meets their individual needs.
About the Role:
You'll provide tailored support to pupils with special educational needs who may need additional help with behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement in lessons. Working alongside teachers and the wider support team, you'll help implement individual behaviour strategies, encourage positive interactions and create a structured environment where pupils feel safe and ready to learn. Responsibilities:

Support pupils with special educational needs in managing behaviour and emotional regulation.

Implement individual behaviour support strategies in line with guidance from teachers and relevant staff.

Build trusting, professional relationships with pupils while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.

Encourage engagement in learning through appropriate communication and tailored support.

Help pupils develop social skills, independence and positive ways to express their needs.

Monitor behaviour and progress, sharing observations with teachers and the wider support team.
Requirements:

Experience supporting children with special educational needs or behavioural challenges is desirable.

A patient, empathetic and resilient approach.

Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to individual needs.

Confidence maintaining consistent boundaries and responding calmly to challenging behaviour.

Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff.

A genuine commitment to inclusive education and helping pupils reach their potential.

Have the right to work in the UK.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
