Salary: £460 – £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Are you passionate about helping young people overcome challenges and get the most out of their education? A supportive secondary school in Barnsley is looking for a Behaviour Support Assistant to help students engage positively with learning and manage their behaviour.
About the Role:
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work alongside subject teachers and pastoral staff to support students across Key Stages 3 and 4. You will help pupils manage challenging situations, stay focused during lessons and move confidently between activities and classes. This is a rewarding opportunity to build positive relationships with young people, encourage better choices and help create the conditions for successful learning.

Responsibilities:

Support secondary-aged students with behaviour management, emotional regulation and engagement in lessons.

Work with subject teachers to implement behaviour strategies and maintain consistent classroom expectations.

Provide individual and small-group support to pupils experiencing difficulties with learning or behaviour.

Help students manage lesson transitions and navigate the school day positively.

Encourage respectful interactions, positive decision-making and active participation in learning.

Monitor behaviour and progress, reporting concerns and relevant observations to teaching and pastoral staff.
Requirements:

Experience working with secondary-aged children or young people is desirable.

A confident, calm and consistent approach to managing challenging behaviour.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

The ability to remain patient and professional in difficult situations.

Confidence working alongside teachers and pastoral teams.

A genuine commitment to helping young people improve their behaviour and achieve their potential.

Have the right to work in the UK.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
