Job Title: Cover Supervisor

Location: Sheffield
Salary: £460 – £650 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Are you confident leading a classroom and helping students stay focused when their usual teacher is away? A welcoming secondary school in Sheffield is looking for a reliable Cover Supervisor to support learning and maintain a positive classroom environment.

About the Role:

As a Cover Supervisor, you will oversee classes during teacher absences, ensuring students remain engaged with the work provided and follow the school's behaviour expectations. You'll have the opportunity to build experience in education, develop your classroom management skills and make a meaningful contribution to students' learning without the responsibility of planning lessons.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise classes across a range of subjects using work and instructions provided by teaching staff.

  • Maintain good classroom behaviour and ensure students remain on task.

  • Explain lesson activities and provide guidance where appropriate.

  • Respond calmly to classroom challenges and follow the school's behaviour policies.

  • Take the class register and report any concerns or incidents to the relevant staff.

  • Ensure students work in a safe, respectful and productive environment.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable.

  • Confident communication and classroom management skills.

  • A calm, adaptable and organised approach.

  • Ability to manage a classroom and maintain appropriate boundaries.

  • Confidence following lesson plans and instructions across different subjects.

  • A genuine interest in education and supporting students' progress.

  • Have the right to work in the UK.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
