SEND Behaviour Mentor
Location: Tonbridge, Kent
Salary Scale: £93.33+ per day, depending on experience
Start Date: ASAP
End Date: Ongoing
Contract Type: Long Term, Full-time
Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs to develop positive behaviour, emotional resilience and confidence?
GSL Education Kent are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Behaviour Mentor to work in a supportive specialist school in Tonbridge, Kent. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor or a graduate looking to build a career in education and SEND.
The successful candidate will support pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), helping them manage their emotions, develop positive behaviour strategies and engage more confidently with their learning. You will play an important role in creating a safe, structured and encouraging environment where pupils feel understood, supported and able to make progress.
The school provides a supportive and inclusive learning environment for pupils with additional needs. It recognises that every pupil has individual strengths, challenges and aspirations, and is committed to helping learners develop socially, emotionally and academically.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored behavioural and emotional support to pupils with SEND, adapting your approach to meet individual needs.
- Support pupils in developing positive behaviour, emotional regulation and coping strategies.
- Help pupils manage challenging situations, frustration and anxiety using calm, consistent and positive approaches.
- Build trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement, confidence and independence.
- Support individual pupils and small groups with learning activities, social interaction and personal development.
- Encourage positive choices, appropriate communication and constructive relationships with peers and staff.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and other professionals to promote consistent behaviour strategies.
- Help maintain a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have experience working with children or young people in an educational, mentoring, care or support setting.
- Demonstrate an understanding of behaviour management and the challenges that pupils with SEND may experience.
- Be patient, empathetic, resilient and confident when responding to challenging behaviour.
- Be able to build positive relationships and establish trust with pupils.
- Have a calm, consistent and proactive approach to supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
- Be committed to helping pupils develop independence, confidence and positive learning habits.
- Be willing to work collaboratively with colleagues and follow individual support and behaviour plans.
Previous experience in a specialist SEND school, behaviour support, mentoring or a similar role would be advantageous. Graduates with a genuine interest in SEND and behaviour support are also encouraged to apply.
