Job description
GSL Education are recruiting for a Behaviour Mentor to support a child displaying challenging behaviour in a primary school in Harlow.
The role will involve working closely with the child and class teacher to support behaviour, engagement in lessons and day-to-day classroom routines. The school is looking for someone who can remain calm in difficult situations, provide consistent boundaries and build a positive relationship with the pupil.
The Role
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the child in the classroom and throughout the school day.
- Managing challenging behaviour using consistent, positive strategies.
- Helping the child recognise and manage their emotions.
- Encouraging participation in lessons and classroom activities.
- Supporting transitions between activities and daily routines.
- Building a positive relationship with the child while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
- Following the school's behaviour policy and individual support strategies.
- Working with the class teacher and SENCO to share observations and maintain a consistent approach.
The Ideal Candidate
The school is looking for someone who is patient, resilient and confident supporting children who may struggle with behaviour.
Previous experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour or additional needs would be beneficial. Experience in a school, nursery, youth work, childcare or support work setting would be relevant.
You should be able to:
- Remain calm and consistent when behaviour becomes challenging.
- Build trust and positive relationships with children.
- Set clear boundaries and follow agreed strategies.
- Communicate effectively with school staff.
- Encourage positive behaviour and engagement with learning.
This role may suit an experienced Behaviour Mentor, SEN Teaching Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Youth Worker or Support Worker looking to work in a primary school.
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people.
- Behaviour support or SEN experience is desirable.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
- Right to work in the UK and satisfactory references.
