GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist educational setting in Hull. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with experience supporting pupils with SEMH, SEN, and SEND needs who can provide consistent, individualised support and help young people engage positively with their education.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils who may experience social, emotional, behavioural, or additional learning needs. You will help create a calm and structured environment where students feel supported, develop positive relationships, and build greater confidence and independence.

Core Responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEMH, SEN, and SEND needs.
  • Assist pupils with accessing learning activities and developing practical, academic, and social skills.
  • Support emotional regulation, positive behaviour, confidence, and engagement with learning.
  • Build trusting relationships with pupils while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
  • Adapt support strategies to meet individual learning, communication, emotional, and behavioural needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and wider staff to monitor progress and provide consistent support.

As the Ideal Teaching Assistant, You Should Have

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEN, SEND, or additional needs.
  • An understanding of emotional, behavioural, communication, or learning difficulties.
  • A calm, patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting young people.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to respond professionally to challenging situations and changing needs.
  • A genuine passion for helping pupils develop confidence, independence, and positive attitudes towards learning.

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with at least 2 professional references covering the last 2 years.
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
