GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting for a dedicated Maths Teacher to work within a specialist educational setting in York. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who can deliver engaging lessons, adapt their approach to meet individual learning needs, and support pupils who may face barriers to education.

About the Role

As a Maths Teacher, you will plan and deliver accessible and engaging lessons across the Maths curriculum, supporting pupils to develop their numeracy, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. You will create a calm and structured learning environment, helping students build confidence, improve their understanding, and work towards their academic goals, including GCSE Maths where appropriate.

Core Responsibilities of the Maths Teacher

  • Plan and deliver engaging Maths lessons suited to pupils’ abilities and learning needs.
  • Support students in developing mathematical knowledge, numeracy, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Adapt teaching methods and resources to support pupils with SEN and additional needs.
  • Establish positive relationships and maintain a calm, structured classroom environment.
  • Assess pupils’ progress and provide constructive feedback to support their development.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching and support staff to promote engagement and consistent learning outcomes.

As the Ideal Maths Teacher, You Should Have

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Strong subject knowledge across the Maths curriculum, including GCSE content.
  • Previous experience teaching Maths, ideally within a secondary or specialist education setting.
  • Confidence supporting pupils with SEN, SEMH, or other additional learning needs.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • A patient, flexible, and resilient approach to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with at least 2 professional references covering the last 2 years.
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
