Job Title: SEMH Support Staff (Primary)

Location: Doncaster
Salary: £460 – £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time
Start Date: Immediate Start

Do you have a calm, caring approach and a genuine interest in helping children overcome barriers to learning? A supportive primary school in Doncaster is looking for SEMH Support Staff to provide dedicated support to pupils who need additional help with their emotional, social and behavioural development.

About the Role:

As SEMH Support Staff, you will work closely with class teachers and pastoral staff to support children who may experience difficulties with emotional regulation, behaviour, communication or engagement. Your day could include one-to-one support, small-group activities and helping pupils manage transitions and classroom routines.

You will provide consistency and encouragement while helping children develop confidence, independence and positive approaches to learning.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Help children manage emotions, behaviour and social interactions.

  • Support pupils to engage with classroom learning and daily routines.

  • Work alongside teachers to implement appropriate support strategies.

  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive behaviour.

  • Provide consistent support during transitions and less structured parts of the school day.

  • Share observations and relevant progress with teachers and pastoral staff.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children is desirable.

  • Experience with SEMH, behaviour or pastoral support is advantageous.

  • A calm, patient and consistent approach.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Confidence responding appropriately to challenging behaviour.

  • Ability to build positive professional relationships with children.

  • A genuine commitment to supporting children's wellbeing and development.

  • Have the right to work in the UK.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
