GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Learning Support Assistant to work within schools across Hull. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is confident supporting pupils with SEMH and additional needs and can provide patient, consistent support in a positive and structured learning environment.

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and wider school staff to provide tailored support to pupils who may experience Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, learning difficulties, communication needs, or other additional needs. You will help pupils engage with learning, develop positive relationships, manage emotions, and build greater independence.

Core Responsibilities of the Learning Support Assistant

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and a range of additional needs.
  • Assist pupils with accessing learning activities and developing confidence and independence.
  • Support emotional regulation, communication, social development, and positive behaviour.
  • Build trusting relationships while maintaining clear, consistent, and professional boundaries.
  • Adapt support strategies to meet individual learning, emotional, behavioural, and communication needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and wider staff to monitor progress and provide consistent support.

As the Ideal Learning Support Assistant, You Should Have

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, SEN, or additional needs.
  • An understanding of emotional, behavioural, learning, or communication difficulties and their impact on education.
  • A calm, patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to remain composed and consistent when supporting challenging or changing situations.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and develop confidence and independence.

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with at least 2 professional references covering the last 2 years.
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
