Location: Sheffield

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Long-Term/ Day-to-day, Full-Time / Part-Time

Could you turn your coaching experience into meaningful learning support for pupils who benefit from a more active approach?

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are looking for an enthusiastic Sports Coach (Learning Support) to work with an amazing school in Sheffield. While a background in sport, fitness or coaching is highly desirable, this is not a standalone PE or sports coaching role. We are looking for individuals who can use their transferable skills to support pupils across a range of school-based roles.

Your experience in coaching, fitness or sport can be particularly valuable when supporting pupils with learning, behaviour, engagement and SEN needs. You may work alongside teachers in the classroom, provide behaviour support, assist pupils with additional needs, support mainstream learning or provide cover supervision when required. This role can be particularly suited to candidates who are confident working with young people and able to remain calm and positive in challenging environments.

As a Sports Coach (Learning Support), you will:

  • Lead and support sports and physical activities for pupils.
  • Provide learning and classroom support to pupils across different age groups and abilities.
  • Support pupils with SEN and additional learning needs.
  • Help pupils remain focused, engaged and motivated during lessons.
  • Use coaching techniques to encourage positive behaviour and participation.
  • Help students develop teamwork, communication and self-confidence.
  • Provide learning and pastoral support where required.
  • Adapt activities to suit different abilities and individual needs.
  • Encourage young people who may be reluctant to participate in school activities.
  • Work alongside teachers and support staff to promote positive outcomes.

Requirements for the Sports Coach (Learning Support) role:

  • A background in sports, fitness, coaching or working with young people
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence supporting pupils with different needs and abilities
  • The ability to build positive relationships with young people
  • A patient, resilient and proactive approach
  • The confidence to support pupils with challenging behaviour
  • A genuine interest in helping young people develop and succeed
  • Previous experience in a school setting is desirable but not essential
  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.

If you are a Sports Coach, Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer, Sports Graduate, Activity Leader or similar professional looking to move into education, we would love to hear from you.

Benefits of working with GSL Education:

  • Access to education and learning-support opportunities across South Yorkshire.
  • Support from a dedicated consultant throughout your assignment.
  • Competitive weekly pay and ongoing professional guidance.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks; including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.

As an ethical, inclusive and independent recruitment agency, GSL Education are committed to providing quality teaching and support staff in schools across South Yorkshire.
