SEN Teaching Assistant

Salary: £92 – £115 per day

GSL Education are currently recruiting for an experienced and caring SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Scarborough. This is an excellent opportunity for a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Nursery Practitioner or experienced support worker with a genuine passion for working with children and young people with additional needs.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a range of additional needs.
  • Support pupils with Autism, SLCN and other SEND needs.
  • Help pupils access learning and participate in classroom activities.
  • Adapt communication and activities to meet individual needs.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, social development and positive behaviour.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and engagement.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Work closely with teachers and other professionals to support individual learning and development.
  • Contribute to a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND.
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism and/or Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Nursery Practitioner, Support Worker or similar.
  • A patient, calm and nurturing approach.
  • The ability to adapt communication and respond to individual needs.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.

Experience within a specialist school, nursery, care or support setting would be advantageous.
