Learning Support Assistant

Salary: £92 – £115 per day
GSL Education are currently recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive secondary school in York. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or education professional who is passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning.

The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils across the school.
- Support pupils with SEND, SEMH and additional learning needs.
- Help pupils access lessons, complete tasks and develop their confidence.
- Adapt activities and explanations to meet individual learning needs.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
- Encourage independence, resilience and engagement with learning.
- Work closely with teachers and other support staff to ensure pupils receive appropriate support.
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive and positive classroom environment.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational, care or support setting.
- Experience supporting SEND, SEMH or challenging behaviour.
- A calm, patient and consistent approach.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to remain positive and resilient when faced with challenging situations.
- A genuine passion for supporting young people and helping them achieve their potential.
Experience within a secondary school, specialist setting, alternative provision or similar environment would be advantageous.
