About the role
GSL Education Kent are currently recruiting a Primary Learning Mentor to support pupils within a welcoming primary school in Dover. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Learning Mentor, Teaching Assistant, graduate or aspiring teacher who is keen to make a meaningful difference to children’s academic progress, wellbeing and personal development.
As a Primary Learning Mentor, you will provide targeted support to pupils, helping them overcome barriers to learning, develop positive learning behaviours and become more confident and engaged within the classroom.

Primary Learning Mentor role
The successful Primary Learning Mentor will work with pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis, providing academic and pastoral support tailored to individual needs. You will help pupils develop their confidence, independence and approach to learning while supporting their wider educational and personal development.
We are looking for a Primary Learning Mentor who is caring, patient and confident in building positive relationships with children.
The successful candidate will:
- Have experience working with children within a primary school, educational or mentoring setting
- Be confident supporting pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis
- Help pupils develop confidence, resilience and positive learning behaviours
- Support children with literacy, numeracy and wider classroom activities
- Build positive relationships and provide encouragement tailored to individual needs
- Be patient, approachable and committed to helping pupils make meaningful progress
- Work effectively with teachers and wider school staff to support pupils’ learning and wellbeing
Experience working in a school, tutoring or mentoring environment would be advantageous, although applications from graduates looking to develop their experience in education are also welcome.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
We also offer, via our partner, access to accredited Education-relevant CPD courses.
In addition to that, GSL Education is currently offering £100 for the successful referral of either Teachers or Teaching Assistants (Ts & Cs apply).
