Salary Scale: £95++ per day, depending on experience

About the role

GSL Education Kent are currently recruiting a Primary Learning Mentor to support pupils within a welcoming primary school in Canterbury. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Learning Mentor, Teaching Assistant, graduate or aspiring teacher who is keen to make a positive difference to children’s academic progress, wellbeing and personal development.

As a Primary Learning Mentor, you will work closely with pupils to provide targeted support, encourage positive attitudes towards learning and help children overcome barriers that may affect their confidence, engagement and achievement.

Primary Learning Mentor role

The successful Primary Learning Mentor will provide tailored support to pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, helping to develop literacy, numeracy, social skills and positive learning behaviours.

We are looking for a Primary Learning Mentor who is patient, approachable and able to build strong relationships with pupils, staff and families.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have experience working with children within a primary school, educational or mentoring setting
  • Be confident supporting pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis
  • Help pupils develop confidence, resilience and positive attitudes towards learning
  • Support children with literacy, numeracy and wider classroom activities
  • Build positive relationships and provide encouragement tailored to individual needs
  • Be patient, caring and committed to helping pupils achieve meaningful progress
  • Work effectively as part of a wider school team to support pupils’ wellbeing and development

Experience working in a school, tutoring or mentoring environment would be advantageous, although applications from graduates looking to develop their experience in education are also welcome.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.

We also offer, via our partner, access to accredited Education-relevant CPD courses.

In addition to that, GSL Education is currently offering £100 for the successful referral of either Teachers or Teaching Assistants (Ts & Cs apply).
