About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and proactive Teaching Assistant to join our support team. This role is ideal for individuals who may not hold formal teaching assistant qualifications but bring valuable, hands-on experience in child development, social care, or vulnerable adult support.


As an Unqualified Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers to support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development. You will play a key role in creating an inclusive, safe, and engaging environment where every pupil can thrive.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom support to individual pupils or small groups under the direction of the class teacher.

  • Assist pupils with learning difficulties, special educational needs (SEN), or behavioural challenges to access the curriculum.

  • Support pupils’ personal care, emotional well-being, and social integration throughout the school day.

  • Assist in managing classroom behaviour and enforcing school policies with fairness and consistency.

  • Help prepare learning materials, set up resources, and maintain an organised learning environment.

  • Communicate effectively with teachers, support staff, and caregivers regarding pupil progress and welfare.

Candidate Requirements

Essential Experience (At least one of the following):

  • Prior experience working within a school, early years setting, or educational environment.

  • Direct experience in social care, residential care, or supporting vulnerable adults/children.

  • Background in youth work, mentorship, or specialised care support.

  • Empathy & Patience: Strong ability to build trust and rapport with children facing academic, emotional, or social hurdles.

  • Communication: Clear, effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Adaptability: Able to stay calm under pressure and adapt to changing classroom dynamics.

  • Teamwork: Collaborative mindset with a commitment to supporting colleagues and contributing to the wider school community.

  • Safeguarding: A clear understanding of (or willingness to train in) child protection and safeguarding standards.
