Job Title: Teacher of Maths

Salary Scale: £174.70 to £270.94 per day (MPS/UPS – depending on experience)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting for a dedicated Teacher of Maths to cover a current absence within a specialist educational setting in York. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is confident delivering GCSE Maths and has the patience, flexibility, and understanding needed to support pupils with SEN.
About the Role
As a Teacher of Maths, you will plan and deliver engaging Maths lessons while adapting your teaching to meet a range of learning needs. You will support pupils working towards GCSE Maths, helping them develop their mathematical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and confidence in a calm and supportive environment.
Core Responsibilities of the Teacher of Maths
- Plan and deliver engaging Maths lessons, including GCSE-level content.
- Adapt teaching, resources, and activities to meet the needs of pupils with SEN.
- Develop students’ mathematical understanding, reasoning, problem-solving, and confidence.
- Establish positive relationships and maintain a calm, structured learning environment.
- Assess students’ work, monitor progress, and provide constructive feedback.
- Work closely with support staff and colleagues to ensure pupils receive consistent and effective support.
As the Ideal Teacher of Maths, You Should Have
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Strong subject knowledge and confidence teaching GCSE Maths.
- Previous experience teaching Maths within a secondary or specialist education setting.
- Experience or confidence working with pupils with SEN and additional learning needs.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- A patient, adaptable, and resilient approach to supporting students with different needs.
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Have an up-to-date CV with at least 2 professional references covering the last 2 years.
- Have recent experience working with children or young people.
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
