Job title: Attendance Officer

Location: Sheffield

Salary: £460–£600 per week (depending on experience)

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Long-Term/ Day-to-day, Full-Time / Part-Time

Could you help schools improve attendance by building positive relationships with students, families and staff?

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are seeking a proactive Attendance Officer to work with a school in Sheffield. The successful candidate will help monitor attendance, communicate with families and work with school staff to encourage improved attendance and positive engagement.

Responsibilities of an Attendance Officer:

  • Monitor and maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Follow up unexplained or persistent absences.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, carers and school staff.
  • Identify attendance concerns and contribute to appropriate interventions.
  • Support pupils and families in understanding the importance of regular attendance.
  • Prepare attendance information and reports when required.
  • Work alongside relevant school teams to improve attendance outcomes.

Requirements for the Attendance Officer role:

  • Previous experience in an administrative, education or attendance-related role is desirable.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Confident communicating with students, families and colleagues.
  • Professional, approachable and solution-focused manner.
  • Ability to manage confidential information appropriately.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines.
  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
