Job Title: SEMH Support Staff (Primary)

Location: Doncaster
Salary: £460 – £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time
Start Date: Immediate Start

Are you passionate about helping children manage challenges and feel settled and supported at school? A welcoming primary school in Doncaster is looking for dedicated SEMH Support Staff to join their team.

About the Role:

As SEMH Support Staff, you will provide practical and emotional support to pupils who may need additional help with social, emotional and mental health needs. Working alongside the class teacher and wider school team, you will help children engage with learning, manage their emotions and develop positive relationships. The role may involve one-to-one support, small-group activities and helping pupils maintain positive routines throughout the school day.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Help children develop strategies for managing emotions and behaviour.

  • Support pupils with classroom learning across EYFS, KS1 or KS2.

  • Build consistent, positive relationships with children.

  • Encourage participation in learning and age-appropriate school activities.

  • Support positive behaviour and effective classroom routines.

  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to meet individual needs.

  • Share relevant observations and feedback with the school team.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEMH or additional needs is desirable.

  • A calm, patient and understanding approach.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Confidence supporting children who may display challenging behaviour.

  • Ability to remain consistent and composed in demanding situations.

  • Experience in a primary school setting is advantageous.

  • A genuine commitment to supporting children's wellbeing and development.

To work with GSL Education as SEMH Support Staff (Primary), you should:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
