Are you from a sports or coaching background and interested in using your skills to support young people in the classroom? A welcoming school in Rotherham is seeking a committed Sports Coach / Learning Support professional to join their team.

About the Role:

This is a school-based classroom support role, rather than a sports delivery or PE position. You will work alongside teachers to support pupils with learning, behaviour and engagement, with opportunities to provide cover supervision and support students who may need additional guidance. Your background in sport can bring valuable transferable skills such as structure, resilience, communication, behaviour management and motivating young people.

About the School:

This inclusive school is committed to providing a supportive and structured learning environment where pupils are encouraged to achieve their potential. Staff work collaboratively to promote positive behaviour, strong relationships and effective classroom support, with a focus on meeting the needs of individual students.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide classroom-based learning and behaviour support to pupils.

  • Work alongside teachers to help students remain focused and engaged.

  • Support pupils with additional learning or SEN needs where required.

  • Assist with cover supervision and ensure students follow the work provided.

  • Build positive professional relationships with pupils.

  • Use your transferable sports and coaching skills to encourage resilience, structure and positive behaviour.

  • Share relevant observations and feedback with teachers and support staff.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

  • A background in sports, coaching, fitness or a related area is advantageous.

  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills.

  • A calm, patient and consistent approach.

  • Confidence supporting pupils in a classroom environment.

  • Ability to motivate and engage young people without relying on sport as the main focus.

  • A genuine commitment to supporting pupils' learning, behaviour and development.
