Job Title: Maths Teacher

Salary Scale: £34,068 to £52,834 per annum (MPS/UPS)
Are you a confident Maths Teacher who can make GCSE Mathematics accessible and engaging for pupils with additional needs? Do you have the subject knowledge, patience and adaptability to support SEN learners while maintaining high expectations?
GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking a Maths Teacher to cover a current absence within a specialist educational setting in York. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and adaptable teacher who can deliver GCSE Maths while effectively supporting pupils with a range of SEN needs and barriers to learning.
Maths Teacher Role:
The successful Maths Teacher will deliver structured and engaging Mathematics lessons across the secondary age range, including GCSE-level content. You will adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs, build positive relationships with pupils and create a calm environment where learners can develop their mathematical knowledge and confidence.
Maths Teacher Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging Maths lessons, including GCSE-level content, appropriate to pupils’ abilities and needs.
- Adapt teaching methods, resources and activities to support pupils with a range of SEN needs.
- Develop pupils’ mathematical understanding, problem-solving skills and confidence.
- Establish positive relationships with pupils and maintain clear, consistent expectations for behaviour and engagement.
- Assess pupils’ understanding and progress, providing appropriate feedback and adapting teaching where required.
- Work collaboratively with support staff and colleagues to ensure pupils receive consistent and effective learning support.
Maths Teacher Requirements:
- QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Strong subject knowledge and confidence teaching GCSE Mathematics.
- Experience working with or teaching pupils with SEN and additional learning needs is essential.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to remain calm, patient and consistent when supporting challenging behaviour or barriers to learning.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with an adaptable and inclusive approach to teaching.
- An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years with explanations for any gaps
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
