Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Part-Time
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you a patient, caring and attentive Teaching Assistant who can provide dedicated one-to-one support to a pupil with a hearing impairment? Do you have excellent communication skills and the ability to help a young person access learning and feel confident in the classroom?
GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking a 1:1 Teaching Assistant to work 4 days per week in a secondary school setting in York, providing dedicated support to a pupil with a hearing impairment. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who can offer consistent, personalised support and work closely with teaching staff to ensure the pupil can fully access their education.
1:1 Teaching Assistant Role:
The successful 1:1 Teaching Assistant will provide focused support throughout the school day, helping the pupil access lessons, communicate effectively and participate confidently in school life. You will develop a positive working relationship with the pupil while working closely with teachers and support staff to follow appropriate strategies and meet their individual needs.
1:1 Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide dedicated one-to-one support to a pupil with a hearing impairment across lessons and school activities.
- Help the pupil access classroom instructions, discussions, resources and learning activities effectively.
- Work closely with teachers to adapt communication and learning approaches to support the pupil’s individual needs.
- Encourage the pupil’s confidence, independence and active participation in school life.
- Monitor engagement and progress, sharing relevant observations with teachers and the wider support team.
- Promote an inclusive, supportive and respectful learning environment while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
1:1 Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with hearing impairments or additional needs is desirable.
- A good understanding of the potential barriers faced by pupils with hearing loss within an educational setting.
- Excellent communication and listening skills, with the ability to adapt communication to individual needs.
- Patient, attentive and compassionate approach with the ability to build a positive one-to-one relationship.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and other professionals while maintaining pupil confidentiality.
- An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years with explanations for any gaps
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
