Salary Scale: £120 – £200 per day, depending on experience

About the role

GSL Education Kent are currently recruiting a Sociology Mentor to support pupils within a welcoming secondary school in Medway. This is an excellent opportunity for a Sociology graduate, experienced educator or aspiring teacher who wants to use their subject knowledge to help pupils strengthen their understanding, confidence and approach to learning.

As a Sociology Mentor, you will work closely with pupils to reinforce key concepts, encourage thoughtful discussion and help them develop the analytical and evaluation skills needed to make progress in Sociology.

Sociology Mentor role

The successful Sociology Mentor will provide targeted academic support to pupils, helping them revisit challenging topics, develop stronger written responses and become more confident in applying sociological theories and concepts.

We are looking for a Sociology Mentor who has strong subject knowledge, communicates clearly and can build positive relationships with young people.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a degree or strong academic background in Sociology or a related subject

  • Demonstrate secure knowledge of key sociological theories, concepts and contemporary issues

  • Be confident supporting pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis

  • Help pupils develop analytical, evaluative and written communication skills

  • Build positive relationships and provide encouragement tailored to individual needs

  • Be patient, approachable and committed to helping pupils make meaningful academic progress

Experience working in a school, tutoring or mentoring environment would be advantageous, although applications from graduates looking to develop their experience in education are also welcome.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.

In addition to that, GSL Education is currently offering £100 for the successful referral of either Teachers or Teaching Assistants (Ts & Cs apply).
