Make a Difference Every Day: Cover Supervisor – Wakefield Secondary School

Location: Wakefield

Pay: £110–£130 per day

Hours: 8:00am – 3:30pm

Contract: Long-term supply, with the opportunity to become permanent

We are looking for a Cover Supervisor to join a welcoming secondary school in Wakefield.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and is confident managing a classroom environment. You will supervise pupils and deliver pre-set work across a range of subjects, ensuring students remain focused and engaged with their learning.

Your Responsibilities

  • Supervise classes in the absence of the usual teacher.
  • Deliver pre-prepared lessons and ensure pupils remain engaged with their work.
  • Maintain a calm, positive and well-managed classroom environment.
  • Manage behaviour in line with the school’s policies and expectations.
  • Support pupils with their learning where appropriate.
  • Build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff on pupils’ engagement and behaviour.
  • Ensure a safe and supportive learning environment at all times.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is confident, reliable, organised and able to manage a classroom effectively.

Previous experience working in a school or with young people is desirable, but we would also consider candidates with experience in youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, tutoring or similar settings.

Most importantly, you will:

  • Have strong classroom management skills.
  • Be confident and consistent when managing behaviour.
  • Build positive relationships with young people.
  • Communicate effectively with pupils and staff.
  • Be adaptable and comfortable covering a range of subjects.
  • Have high expectations of students.
  • Be committed to supporting pupils to achieve their potential.
