GSL Education Hull Branch are currently hiring a Secondary Humanities Teacher to work in a specialist educational setting in Hull. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated teacher who can deliver engaging Humanities lessons while providing the structure, encouragement and individual support that pupils need to re-engage with education.

Secondary Humanities Teacher Role:

The successful Secondary Humanities Teacher will deliver accessible and engaging lessons across areas such as History, Geography, Citizenship or related Humanities subjects. You will build positive relationships with learners, adapt teaching to individual needs and create a calm, structured environment that encourages participation, confidence and progress.

Secondary Humanities Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging Humanities lessons that are appropriately adapted to pupils’ individual needs.
  • Teach relevant Humanities topics while developing pupils’ knowledge, literacy and critical-thinking skills.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and encourage consistent engagement with learning.
  • Use effective behaviour-management strategies to maintain a calm, structured and purposeful classroom.
  • Assess pupils’ work and progress, providing constructive feedback and adapting teaching where required.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and support staff to promote pupils’ academic, social and emotional development.

Secondary Humanities Teacher Requirements:

  • QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Strong subject knowledge in one or more Humanities disciplines, such as History, Geography or Citizenship.
  • Previous experience teaching secondary-aged pupils, particularly within a specialist or alternative educational setting, is desirable.
  • Experience supporting pupils with additional needs, challenging behaviour or barriers to education would be advantageous.
  • Strong classroom management, communication and relationship-building skills, with a calm and consistent approach.
  • An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years with explanations for any gaps
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
