GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting for a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to work within a supportive secondary school setting in York. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who can build positive relationships with students and provide effective support both in and outside the classroom.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and wider school staff to support students with their learning, development, and day-to-day classroom engagement. You will help create a positive, inclusive environment where students feel supported and encouraged to become more confident and independent learners.

Core Responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students across a range of learning activities.
  • Assist teachers with classroom activities, resources, and differentiated learning tasks.
  • Support students with their academic, communication, social, and emotional development.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, confidence, independence, and engagement with learning.
  • Monitor students’ progress and provide appropriate feedback to teaching staff.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and wider staff to ensure consistent and effective student support.

As the Ideal Teaching Assistant, You Should Have

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people in an educational or similar setting.
  • A patient, supportive, and empathetic approach to working with students.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to support students with a range of learning needs and abilities.
  • A calm and professional approach to managing challenging or changing situations.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people develop and achieve their potential.

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with at least 2 professional references covering the last 2 years.
  • Have recent experience working with children or young people.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
