GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are seeking a dedicated Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) Teacher to work with a school in Sheffield. This is an opportunity for an experienced teacher who can create a structured and supportive classroom environment while responding effectively to pupils with a range of emotional, behavioural and learning needs.
Your responsibilities as an SEMH Teacher:
- Plan and deliver accessible lessons suited to pupils' individual needs.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support different learning abilities.
- Establish clear routines and consistent classroom expectations.
- Develop positive relationships with pupils and encourage engagement.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and behavioural challenges.
- Monitor progress and adapt provision where necessary.
- Work collaboratively with support staff and other professionals.
Requirements for the SEMH Teacher role:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent is essential being an SEMH Teacher.
- Experience teaching pupils with SEMH, SEN or additional behavioural needs is desirable.
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
- Ability to adapt lessons and teaching approaches to individual needs.
- Calm, patient and resilient approach.
- Good understanding of inclusive teaching and pupil wellbeing.
- Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
Teaching youths with SEMH needs requires flexibility, consistency and an understanding that progress can look different for every learner. This role offers the chance to create a classroom where pupils feel supported while continuing to develop academically and personally.
