PE Cover Supervisor

Location: Newham
Salary: £175 - £265 per day
Start Date: 15 Oct
Contract: Long Term

GSL Education is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic PE Cover Supervisor to join a welcoming secondary school for girls with a mixed-gender Sixth Form in Newham. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident PE Cover Supervisor who is passionate about supporting students, delivering engaging PE lessons and creating a positive learning environment.

As a PE Cover Supervisor, you will play an important role in maintaining high standards of teaching and learning across the school. You will teach Year 7–11 Core PE as well as Sixth Form Core PE lessons, helping students develop their physical skills, confidence, teamwork and understanding of healthy lifestyles.

The school is looking for a dedicated PE Cover Supervisor who can build positive relationships with students, manage behaviour effectively and deliver purposeful lessons. Whether you are an experienced PE Cover Supervisor, an experienced sports educator or a teacher looking for a long-term opportunity, this role offers the chance to make a real difference.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a PE Cover Supervisor, delivering engaging and well-structured PE lessons across the school.
  • Teach Year 7–11 Core PE lessons.
  • Deliver Sixth Form Core PE lessons.
  • Follow lesson plans and school schemes of work to ensure continuity of learning.
  • Create a positive, inclusive and safe learning environment for all students.
  • Manage behaviour effectively and maintain clear classroom and sports-area expectations.
  • Support students of different abilities and encourage active participation.
  • Promote teamwork, discipline, confidence and a positive attitude towards physical activity.
  • Ensure PE equipment and facilities are used safely and responsibly.
  • Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback where appropriate.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and the PE department to support students and maintain high standards.
  • Follow school policies relating to safeguarding, behaviour, health and safety and professional conduct.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a PE Cover Supervisor, PE Teacher, Sports Coach or in a similar school-based role.
  • Strong knowledge of PE and confidence teaching Core PE to students in Years 7–11.
  • Experience or confidence delivering Sixth Form Core PE lessons.
  • Good behaviour management and communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate students and build positive professional relationships.
  • A reliable, flexible and professional approach to school work.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • QTS is desirable, but not essential.
  • Relevant PE, Sports or Teaching qualifications are advantageous.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for a new enhanced DBS.
