SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Tower Hamlets
Salary: £100 - £120 per day
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Long Term

GSL Education is looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a secondary comprehensive school and sixth form for girls in Tower Hamlets. This is an exciting opportunity for a caring, committed and enthusiastic SEN TA to support students with special educational needs and help them achieve their full potential.

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to provide high-quality learning and pastoral support. The successful SEN TA will be confident supporting students with a range of additional needs and will be committed to creating a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as a SEN Teaching Assistant supporting students across the secondary school and sixth form.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with SEN and additional learning needs.
  • Support students with their learning, communication, social development and independence.
  • Work closely with teachers to adapt activities and resources to meet individual student needs.
  • Encourage students to participate positively in lessons and school activities.
  • Support students with personal care and physical needs where required.
  • Use positive behaviour strategies to promote good behaviour and engagement.
  • Monitor students' progress and provide feedback to teachers and relevant staff.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with students, staff and parents/carers.
  • Follow school policies and safeguarding procedures at all times.
  • Work as part of a supportive team to promote inclusion and student wellbeing.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar SEN support role.
  • Experience supporting students within a secondary school or educational setting.
  • A good understanding of SEN and the different barriers that can affect learning.
  • A valid Manual Handling Certificate is essential.
  • A patient, caring and positive approach to supporting young people.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when managing challenging situations.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a school team.
  • An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for a new enhanced DBS check.
