General Supply Teacher

Location: Wakefield

Salary: £150–£180 per day, dependent on experience

Start Date: September 2026

Contract Type: Full-Time / Flexible / Daily Supply

GSL Education is currently seeking enthusiastic and adaptable General Supply Teachers to work across a range of welcoming and supportive schools in Wakefield. As a General Supply Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging lessons, maintaining a positive learning environment and supporting pupils in their learning and development. You will have the opportunity to work across different year groups and subjects, depending on your experience and preferences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and effective lessons in line with school requirements.
  • Follow lesson plans and school policies to ensure continuity of learning.
  • Teach pupils across different year groups and abilities.
  • Maintain a positive, safe and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively and promote positive attitudes to learning.
  • Adapt teaching approaches and resources to meet the needs of individual pupils.
  • Support pupils with their academic, social and emotional development.
  • Assess and monitor pupil progress where required.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and other school professionals.
  • Ensure pupils remain engaged and supported throughout the school day.
  • Complete any relevant handover notes or feedback requested by the school.
  • Uphold safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare of children and young people.

The Ideal General Supply Teacher Will Have

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Previous experience teaching within a UK school environment.
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • The ability to confidently deliver lessons across different classes and year groups.
  • A flexible, adaptable and enthusiastic approach to teaching.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to supporting pupils' learning and development.
  • The ability to quickly build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
  • A fully checkable employment and reference history.
