Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £460 – £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Are you passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health needs? A welcoming school in Sheffield is looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with their learning, wellbeing and personal development.
About the Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide day-to-day support to pupils who may need additional help with emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement in learning. You will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff, helping pupils feel settled in school and make positive progress.

Responsibilities:

Support pupils with SEMH needs in and outside the classroom.

Help pupils manage emotions and develop positive behaviour strategies.

Provide one-to-one and small-group support where required.

Work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to support individual needs.

Encourage pupils to engage positively with learning and school routines.

Build trusting, professional relationships with pupils.

Share relevant observations and feedback with teaching and pastoral staff.
Requirements:

Previous experience supporting children or young people is desirable.

Experience working with SEMH or behavioural needs is advantageous.

A calm, patient and consistent approach.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to remain resilient and supportive in challenging situations.

A genuine commitment to helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

Have the right to work in the UK.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
