Job Title: Sports Coach / Learning Support

Salary: £500 – £650 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Do you have a background in sport and enjoy helping young people stay focused, engaged and confident in the classroom? A welcoming school in Barnsley is looking for a Sports Coach / Learning Support professional to join their team.
About the Role:
This is a school-based classroom support role rather than a sports delivery position. You will work alongside teachers to support pupils with learning, behaviour and engagement, helping maintain a calm and structured classroom environment.
Your sports, coaching or fitness background can bring valuable transferable skills such as resilience, communication, behaviour management, teamwork and the ability to provide clear structure. Sport is your background, but your main responsibility will be supporting pupils in the classroom.

Responsibilities:

Provide classroom-based learning and behaviour support to pupils.

Work alongside teachers to support engagement and participation.

Help pupils stay focused and follow classroom routines.

Build positive relationships with pupils and encourage appropriate behaviour.

Provide support during lessons, transitions and other parts of the school day.

Assist with individual or small-group support where required.

Use transferable coaching skills to provide structure, motivation and consistency.
Requirements:

Experience working with children or young people is desirable.

A background in sport, coaching or fitness is advantageous but is not essential.

Strong behaviour management and communication skills.

A calm, patient and resilient approach.

Confidence supporting pupils within a classroom environment.

Ability to work effectively alongside teachers and other school staff.

A genuine interest in supporting pupils' learning and development.
To work with GSL Education as a Sports Coach / Learning Support, you should:

Have the right to work in the UK.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
