Job Title: Learning Support Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Full-Time
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)
Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence to succeed? GSL Education Hull Branch are currently hiring dedicated Learning Support Assistants to work in an educational setting in York.
This opportunity is open to a wide range of candidates, including experienced Learning Support Assistants with or without SEN experience, as well as SEN, SEMH, or SEND specialists. We would also welcome applications from youth workers, mentors, recent Psychology graduates, and candidates with relevant transferable skills who are keen to build a career in education.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils, helping them engage positively with learning.
- Assist teachers with classroom activities, differentiated tasks, interventions, and learning resources.
- Support pupils who may experience SEN, SEND, SEMH, behavioural, social, or emotional barriers to learning.
- Build positive relationships with pupils and encourage confidence, independence, positive behaviour, and participation.
- Monitor pupils’ engagement and progress, sharing relevant observations and feedback with teaching staff.
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where every pupil feels valued.
Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable, but candidates with or without direct SEN experience are encouraged to apply.
- Experience supporting pupils with SEN, SEMH, or SEND would be advantageous.
- Candidates with backgrounds in youth work, mentoring, Psychology, care, coaching, or other transferable roles are welcome.
- A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach with the ability to build positive relationships with young people.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a genuine interest in supporting pupils’ personal and educational development.
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
