SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full-time or Part-Time
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £92 – £115 per day
GSL Education are currently recruiting for a SEN Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist educational setting in Scarborough. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in EYFS, Nursery, Autism (ASC) or Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
The role would suit an experienced Teaching Assistant, Nursery Practitioner, Early Years professional or support worker looking to develop their experience within a specialist setting.
The Role as an SEN Teaching Assistant
You will provide tailored support to pupils, helping them to engage with learning, develop communication skills and build confidence and independence.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with additional needs.
- Supporting children with ASC, SLCN and other SEND needs.
- Using engaging, age-appropriate activities to support learning and development.
- Applying your EYFS or Early Years experience to support communication, social and emotional development.
- Adapting communication and activities to meet individual needs.
- Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour and social development.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
- Working closely with teachers and other professionals to support individual learning plans.
- Creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment.
The Ideal SEN Teaching Assistant
We are particularly interested in candidates with:
- Experience working within EYFS, Nursery or Early Years settings.
- Experience supporting children or young people with ASC and/or SLCN.
- Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Nursery Practitioner, Support Worker or similar.
- A patient, nurturing and consistent approach.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt communication to individual needs.
- A genuine passion for supporting children with SEND.
- The ability to remain calm and positive when faced with challenging situations.
