Support Worker
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Supply / Ad-hoc / Part-Time / Full-Time
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £92 – £115 per day
GSL Education are currently recruiting SEN Support Workers and Teaching Assistants to provide supply cover at a specialist school in York.
This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced support workers, teaching assistants, care professionals or individuals with a strong background in supporting children and young people with SEND who are looking for flexible work.
The Role
You will provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them access learning, develop communication and independence skills, and feel safe and supported throughout the school day.
The role may involve supporting pupils with autism, complex learning needs, communication difficulties and behavioural needs, depending on the requirements of the school.
Key Responsibilities as a Support Worker
- Provide person-centred 1:1 and small-group support.
- Support pupils with their learning, communication and development.
- Promote independence, confidence and positive behaviour.
- Adapt your approach to meet individual pupils' needs and communication styles.
- Support pupils with personal care where required.
- Follow individual support plans and safeguarding procedures.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and wider support staff.
- Maintain a calm, safe and inclusive environment.
The Ideal Support Worker
- We are looking for candidates who are:
- Experienced working with children or adults with SEND or have relevant care/support experience.
- Patient, caring and resilient.
- Confident supporting individuals with complex or additional needs.
- Comfortable providing personal care where required.
- Able to adapt communication and support to individual needs.
Previous experience in a specialist school, SEN setting, care, support work, residential care or youth work would be advantageous.
