Behaviour Mentor
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £92 – £115 per day
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
GSL Education are currently recruiting for a Behaviour Mentor to support pupils at a specialist school in York. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience working with young people who have SEMH, behavioural and additional needs.
The Role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will provide targeted support to pupils who may experience difficulties with behaviour, emotional regulation, engagement and relationships. You will work closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop the skills they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities as a Behaviour Mentor:
- Provide 1:1 and small-group mentoring to pupils with behavioural and SEMH needs.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and act as a consistent role model.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, confidence and self-esteem.
- Help pupils identify triggers and develop positive strategies for managing behaviour.
- Encourage pupils to engage with learning and develop independence and resilience.
- Support the implementation of individual behaviour and support plans.
- Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to monitor pupil progress and wellbeing.
- Respond calmly and appropriately to challenging or dysregulated behaviour.
- Promote a safe, calm and inclusive learning environment.
The Ideal Behaviour Mentor
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs.
- Calm, patient and resilient.
- Confident managing challenging behaviour and emotionally heightened situations.
- Able to build strong relationships with young people who may have experienced barriers to education.
- A strong communicator with a consistent and supportive approach.
- Passionate about helping young people develop confidence, independence and positive behaviours.
- Previous experience in education, youth work, care, residential settings, sports coaching or similar environments is desirable.
