Salary Scale: £34,068 to £52,834 per annum (MPS/UPS)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking a Teacher of English to work in a well-established secondary school in York. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic teacher to join a supportive department and contribute to a positive learning environment where pupils are encouraged to think critically, communicate confidently and develop a strong appreciation of English.
Teacher of English Role:
The successful Teacher of English will deliver engaging lessons across the secondary curriculum, supporting pupils to develop their reading, writing, analytical and communication skills. You will use a range of teaching approaches to challenge and support learners while maintaining high expectations for progress, behaviour and achievement.
Teacher of English Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging English lessons that meet curriculum requirements and the needs of individual learners.
- Develop pupils’ confidence in reading, writing, analysis and effective communication.
- Teach a range of literary and language texts, encouraging pupils to think critically and express their ideas clearly.
- Differentiate learning activities to provide appropriate support and challenge for pupils of varying abilities.
- Assess pupils’ work, provide constructive feedback and use assessment information to inform future teaching.
- Establish a positive classroom environment with high expectations for behaviour, effort and academic progress.
Teacher of English Requirements:
- QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Strong subject knowledge across English Language and English Literature.
- Previous experience teaching English within a secondary school setting is desirable.
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate pupils.
- A creative, enthusiastic and reflective approach to teaching, with a commitment to supporting every pupil’s progress.
- An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years with explanations for any gaps
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
