Job Title: Experienced Attendance Officer
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time
Start Date: Immediately

Are you experienced in supporting pupil attendance and keen to help young people overcome barriers to regular school attendance? A welcoming school in Sheffield is looking for an organised and proactive Attendance Officer to join their team.

About the Role:

As an Attendance Officer, you will play a key role in monitoring and improving pupil attendance. You will work closely with students, families, teachers and pastoral staff to identify attendance concerns, follow up on absences and support practical steps towards improved attendance.

Your day-to-day work will involve maintaining accurate attendance records, communicating with parents and carers, following up on unexplained absences and providing appropriate support to pupils who may be experiencing barriers to attending school.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor daily attendance and identify patterns or concerns.

  • Follow up on absences and lateness with pupils, parents and carers.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date attendance records.

  • Work with pastoral and teaching staff to address attendance concerns.

  • Support pupils and families in overcoming barriers to regular attendance.

  • Prepare and share attendance information and relevant reports.

  • Maintain clear records of communication and actions taken.

  • Follow school procedures relating to attendance and safeguarding.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in an attendance, pastoral, administrative or education-based role.

  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Confidence communicating professionally with pupils, parents and staff.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

  • A proactive, reliable and professional approach.

  • Good attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Experience working within a school environment is advantageous.

To work with GSL Education as an Experienced Attendance Officer, you should:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.

  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
