GSL Education is looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Darlington, starting immediately. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, caring, and confident in supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs.
About the Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide tailored support to pupils who may require additional help with their learning, communication, behaviour, or emotional development.
You may work on a 1:1 basis, in small groups, or within the wider classroom, helping pupils feel settled, included, and confident in their learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN.
- Assist pupils with classroom activities and learning tasks.
- Support children with communication, behavioural, and emotional needs.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive engagement.
- Build trusting and supportive relationships with pupils.
- Adapt support to meet individual learning needs.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment.
- Follow safeguarding and school policies at all times.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN is desirable.
- A patient, caring, and understanding approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Confidence supporting pupils with different learning and behavioural needs.
- Ability to remain calm and positive in challenging situations.
- Reliable, adaptable, and committed to supporting pupils.
- Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
