Job Title: SEMH Teacher

Contract Type: Temporary, Full Time, Term Time Only

Salary Scale: £34,068 to £52,834 per annum (MPS/UPS)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting for a dedicated SEMH Teacher to work within schools across Scarborough. This is a rewarding opportunity for a teacher who can create a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
About the Role
As an SEMH Teacher, you will support pupils who may experience emotional, behavioural, and social difficulties that affect their engagement with education. You will deliver engaging lessons while using consistent and nurturing approaches to promote positive behaviour, build confidence, and encourage pupils to make meaningful progress.
Core Responsibilities of the SEMH Teacher
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons adapted to the individual needs and abilities of pupils.
- Provide consistent academic and pastoral support to help pupils overcome barriers to learning.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and encourage confidence, resilience, and independence.
- Manage challenging behaviour using calm, consistent, and appropriate strategies.
- Monitor pupils’ progress, identify areas of need, and provide constructive feedback.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and wider support staff to provide consistent and effective support.
As the Ideal SEMH Teacher, You Should Have
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Previous experience working with pupils with SEMH, behavioural, or additional needs.
- A calm, patient, resilient, and nurturing approach to supporting young people.
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to adapt teaching and support strategies to meet individual needs.
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Have an up-to-date CV with at least 2 professional references covering the last 2 years.
- Have recent experience working with children or young people.
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
